DJ Dinho, a DJ from a local sound system when interviewed, mentioned: “The music is made to promote the artists. The artists don’t use the music to sell millions of copies. It’s to give the artist attention and to get shows”.

Philly Tropicalismo! Next Thursday @ The Walnut Room, free before 10:30 with RSVP.

They say: “DJ Rupture will be joining residents Gregzinho and Juanderful for Philly’s only night of dembows mashed up with folk tunes, crunked out cumbia, dancehall mania en español, coupé décale collides with hip-hop, Carnival mass hysteria, kuduro avec grande vitesse, soca-fied funky house.”

My first appearance on U.S. TV and I’m speakin’ Spanish! Welcome to the 21st ct., amigos. Gonna throw a tea party to celebrate, tod@s estan invitad@s. #DemographicWarfare

We’ll be broadcasting live from the combination Pi… I mean, Das Racist are rising rap stars, post-meta, consisently awesome, endlessly quotable, and “super credible.” Their 2010 output of next-level mixtapes, videos, and video games is simply astonishing. So – mark yr calendars and alert yr Social Networks: next Monday, October 18th, I catch up with Das Racist to talk about Ford trucks, apple pie, and bald eagles!

If you haven’t heard Sit Down Man then remedy that. Here are 2 jams from it:

Chip Tha Ripper, “Ain’t No Love Here,” from From Me, To You (Prelude To Gift Raps) EP

Cleveland rapper Chip Tha Ripper is part of the newer generation of rappers coming out of Midwestern U.S. cities, and making interesting, street hip hop, and sometimes just sinister mid-90s-style throwback rap jams. Look beyond the cartoonish artist package, and you’ll find some solid rap music. “Ain’t No Love Here” is one the best tracks I’ve heard from Chip since “Get It Gurl.” Also check his verse on Freddie Gibb’s “Oil Money” –

THE DUTTY ARTZ GROUP: GUIDLINES TO CONSIDER WHEN TERMINATING A DJ
Soundboy Murderation Part 3

Dutty Artz’s first two articles on termination guidelines can be found on this Dutty Artz blog site, which you can link to here: https://duttyartz.com/

In a previous Dutty Artz series of articles we discussed things to consider when you are considering DJ termination. We presented ideas on what Dutty Artz consultants recommend to Dutty Artz clients on this matter. In this new series we are covering guidelines to bear in mind once you have actually decided to terminate the DJ under consideration. These are guidelines that Dutty Artz consultants go over with their Dutty Artz clients, especially clients new to the Dutty Artz program.

As previously noted, all of this information can be found in Dutty Artz Group’s copyrighted Job Description and Office Policy Manual that all new Dutty Artz clients receive as part of their Dutty Artz program. The Dutty Artz Group’s 400 plus page manual can be easily edited for any office and is something all Dutty Artz consultants ensure is implemented with Dutty Artz clients. In today’s litigious world, having proper policies in place, and following them, is vitally important.

Here are several more guidelines to keep in mind when discharging a DJ:

o When the DJ Begs: If an DJ begs for a second chance, you have got to be tough. Be willing to explain things but don’t give the slightest indication that you are flexible in your decision.

o Arguing the Reasons: Don’t argue with the DJ. Indicate that you have the specific documentation supporting the decision. On the other hand, if the DJ’s argument convinces you that something has been overlooked, indicate you will check it out as quickly as possible and do so.

We will present more guidelines for termination in upcoming Dutty Artz blogs.

We are dropping  a 12 track tropical compilation just in time for when things start to get cold in New York and hot in Rio. Ten unreleased TROPICAL tunes + anthemic FUNKY THAT WE HAD TO COSIGN and A HEAVYWEIGHT NEW MASTER OF NGUZUNGUZU’s EL BEBE AMBIENTE. We feel bad that we have not kept up our LEGENDARY New York Tropical parties- but we just do not have time to promote a crew club night in New York- but maybe again in the future, with some good partners we would get into it again- because NEW YORK TROPICAL WAS A FUCKING BLESSING. The first time I went was before I had really started working with DA and everything about it was perfect. From the German Belgian installation art that slowly dissolved as the dancefloor spread to all surfaces, to the perfect Sangria, the heavy weight dancehall soundsytem that we rented from SoundMan Grimm, a crowd that reflected the diversity of the music…. basically NYT was one of the dopest party series I’ve ever taken part in (although sadly I never got to play caus I was busy learning things in school and hanging out in Europe).

For the comp we hooked up with DA resident internet excavator Seacrest Cheadle  892 u mean computer mean2 computer did u mean competitor a force that has been so next level for so long that it is basically my only internet news source. We have been dreaming of doing projects with him/it/her/zee since before the first .com crash but he’s basically the zeitgeist embodied and besides pretty regular appearances at Korea Town Karaoke Bars and Neurogenetic labs in undisclosed locations- she is damn near impossible to locate. but somewhere in the #based ether we convinced it them 2 make a deadline… and magically, it worked.

Our promo machine is at about cotton gin status at this point… so we just moving FWD looking towards a more cohesive way to reach a larger audience. I dont open or listen to almost any of the promo email I get, and you dont either. But some of it will keep coming but really this whole thing is about relationships. I, for one, am working on my relationship to the ocean and fresh fruit juice in Brazil. I suggest you keep a dream journal while you ask these questions.

There are also tracks on this compilation from important and soon to be important musicians like Lamin Fofana, Kingdom (flipping RITA INDIANA OMFG!), Lido Pimienta, Matt Shadetek, DJ /Rupture, Chief Boima, DJ Orion, Sonora, Salem,  Knight Magic,  La Ola Criminal, Maga Bo.

Tracks will be sold digitally via Hulk Share and on custom GuccixDuttyArtz all-over-print USB sticks

Joyful music for an expensive, shitty city with decaying infrastructure where DUTTY ARTZ lives & loves.

Dutty Artz family member and general superstar Rocio Rodriguez Salceda has her debut solo show in New York City, opening this Thursday at Caption Gallery in DUMBO.

art-fight

The show contains photographs and an animation. The photographs inhabit a provocative space between psychological portraiture, fashion, and creepyland. Powerful! “Though Rodríguez Salceda ultimately blacks out the individual faces of her models, a gesture that lends them both anonymity and universality, all of the women that she picks as subjects are close friends, often artists or performers themselves. Taking stereotypical ideas of femininity as her jumping off point, Rodríguez Salceda proposes a psychological alter ego for each model…”

Join us at the opening this Thursday! It’s open gallery night across DUMBO and in the building at Water St., so there’s much to see.

Caption Gallery is pleased to present Art Fight,
an exhibition of new work by Rocío Rodríguez Salceda.

September 30th- October 21st
Opening Reception October 7th, 6:00-8:00pm

anbb – I Wish I Was A Mole In The Ground

Here, two Germans cover a traditional American folk song I first on heard on Jace/Rupture‘s Special Gunpowder – which was released 6 years ago! It’s about time we revisit. Who wants another album from Rupture? Start a petition! Anyway, I have been listening to (Carsten Nicolai’s) Alva Noto‘s minimalist electronic sounds/records for over 6 years, but for some reason never gave Blixa Bergeld (nor his famous band Einstürzende Neubauten) much chance, though I heard Rupture playing something at WFMU and talking about KOLLAPSing New Buildings – but honestly, I don’t know what they even sound like. Alva Noto and Blixa Bergeld have a full length album titled Mimikry out now, and I haven’t heard that yet either. This track/cover vers is from an EP titled Ret Marut Handshake, which contains some terrific beats and bits and sounds from Alva Noto with Blixa Bergeld’s voice boldly floating on top.

Omega El Fuerte running things in Washington Heights last night.omega-gif

The great thing about Omega fandom is that it requires no explanation. Either you haven’t heard of him (in which case, read the Omega profile I wrote for The Fader last summer) or you have, and his bad-assness is utterly self-evident. It’s simple: this former reggaeton choreographer is “El Fuerte”, one of the best musicians around in any genre right now, period, the undisputed dark king of Dominican merengue urbano / mambo. Plus he’s kinda scary – we’re not fooled just because he dropped the “y su Mambo Violento” from his name. (When you find an Omega fan, ask ’em about Rita Indiana — they’ll have an opinion on her too.)

Omega El Fuerte plays twice this weekend in NYC – as I tweeted: “all NYC’s latin ‘cosmopolatino’ websites that *didnt* mention OMEGA’s gigs here this weekend: #FAIL” ….
