As you all probably may know I teach at DubSpot in NYC teaching people to make beats with Logic. For Dubspot’s second anniversary Dan who runs it is doing some parties. This one should be great, Rupture and I will be there DJing. Of special interest, at least to me, is the early sound-check session where dub master Scientist will be giving a talk about mic placement and general production/mixing wizardry before the show. The daytime seminars, including one with Rupture, should be very cool too.

ok. so the free tickets have long been ‘sold out’ — early bird gets the worm– but this is a quick reminder: Tomorrow I’m DJing at the SONAR festival’s first ever NYC, party! Myself, Prefuse 73, and bunch of producers / DJs / VJs from Barcelona (where both Prefuse & I lived). In fact, I’ve spent most of the 21st century based in Barcelona….

anyhow, check it out SONARsound NYC.

I go on around 11pm and spin for 2 hours, a nice stretch-out set. Will sneek in tunes from my fav BCN-based producers — Cauto (3rd generation Catalan musician!), Cardopusher (Venezuelan expat skullcrusher), Pulshar (Spanish but sing in accented English: bonus points!), Filastine (gringo total!), as well as making sure the Euro-latinos get a taste of New York Tropicalcumbia from new jersey, mambo / 160bpm merengue de la kalle edits, etc., stuff that you don’t hear over in España.

Here’s one of the Cauto jams we released on vinyl:

If you happen to be within striking distance of London- make sure you come out Friday night to check the Dutty Artz sound coming loud to Demolition.
Shaun Bass puts it well “Choose unemployment. Choose a constant struggle to be noticed. Build your own fucked up, contorted family, Fuck paying for a television license, Fuck doing the laundry, Fuck cars, iPods, and your fucking Blackberry.
Choose poor health, poor diet and slacking off visits to the doctor.

Choose low priced, rented accomodation. Choose a squatted Warehouse in Hackney Wick. Choose your friends. Choose handmade and charity shop clothing, gaffa tape and rubbish, fuck matching luggage.
Fuck a three piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY Fashion, art and music and knowing exactly who you are on a Saturday night.
Fuck sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing sprit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Fuck rotting away at the end of it all, pishing you last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Destroy the future.

Choose demolition!”

No kidding!  Thanks to all who came out to New York Tropical 5 to see Uproot Andy, Geko, me and Maluca.  It was a lot of fun.  Maluca killed it, super energy and the people loved it.  Here are some pics from the night.  This month we’ll be back at Glasslands on Friday May 29th doin’ it again, flier and info very soon.

2) US people — Soot’s rising star El Hijo de la Cumbia has the iTunes US Latin Single of the Week! Go Now to grab his “Soy El Control” hit for free. and feel free to grab the whole album while there….

Thanks again to everyone who came out last time.  We’re doing it again.  We’re always looking for people doing things that we like and can vibe with in NYC to link up and get rainforesty with us.  This time our guest is new signee to Diplo’s Mad Decent label Maluca.  Those who were there  last time know what I’m saying, I tried to lean on the wall behind the DJ booth and nearly busted my ass it was so slippery.  Shoutouts to Contessa hosting and NY Remezcla on promotional support.

Thanks to everyone who came out on Friday to NY Tropical 4, it was CRAZYYYYYYYYY.  I’m so happy that we were able to bring together everyone on that bill, Geko, Andy, Kingdom, Esau, Mariana all KILLED IT.  It was one of the best parties I’ve played at or been at in a long time.  Here’s a selection of pics from the night, thanks Lamin, Jean and Andy for taking these.

Friend of Dutty Artz Kiva has a release party coming up for his record Degrees of Freedom. He produced the record with a mix of electronic and acoustic instruments but has now transcribed it for the nine piece band he’s gathered for this event. On top of that a lot of the music is written in 3/4 (waltz) time something you almost never hear in future-funk-jazz-brokenbeat whatever kind of music Kiva makes, should be a crazy show.

Paris Soot Takeover Time.

At Studio B, 259 Banker Street, Greenpoint, Brooklyn, USA, The World. 19+, 10$ Advance, $15 at the door, 10PM to 4AM.

In case u missed it everywhere else in the world- here’s the latest mix effort from BK’s Uproot Andy. I saw him steal the show at S.O.B’s earlier in the summer- but this on a whole ‘nother tip. Obviously packed with technical skill  and a keen understanding of mixology- Andy isn’t afraid to just let a beautiful track fade into another or to drop his own stellar reworks. Check him with Geko at 205 (where i once tried to go see Shadetek and couldn’t get past the door man)  on Friday Sep 26th.  Go to Remezcla and click the DJ Wave flyer to register for the party. Â
