Pope-Lee-Perry

Simone from the Palm Wine blog recently launched a crowd funding campaign to bring Lee “Scratch” Perry to his Italian hometown and help exorcise its imperial demons. Simone takes a second to tell us about his exciting project:

Apart from my Palm Wine project, I am part of Invernomuto art group together with Simone Trabucchi (owner of the record label Hundebiss). We founded Invernomuto in 2003 and since then we have been working as a duo. We make works without a set format, with an emphasis on the collapse and subsequent mixture of different languages. Our research ranges from the production of single-channel videos and installations to the staging of events and site-specific projects.

Brooklyn-based producers Old Money and Lamin Fofana continue their collaboration with Ethiopia/Nāga, the first in a series of three joint releases. The duo themselves describe the audio experience as “an examination of mysteries as articulated through fresh and distinct African Caribbean lenses” — which is dead on. These journeys, which I refuse to just call tracks, sound like solutions of different colored inks. “Ethiopia” is a nostalgia-inducing fusion of Afro-Caribbean drumming, electronic melody, and a Gregorian-type bass. It flows into “Nāga,” which feels like Chicago/London house music meets a Naeto C flow from “10 Over 10.” Buy the release, out now on Dutty Artz, and stream it below.

Maga Bo – “Gondar feat. Eritbu ‘Solomon’ Agegnehu and Entenesh Wassié”

Here’s a video from Dutty Artz family and habitual transnational/borderless bass collaborationist Maga Bo. Filmed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the beautifully shot video for the track “Gondar” which from Maga Bo’s most recent release Ransom EP out now on Senseless Records. Not only providing a glimpse into Bo’s recording process and collaboration with the two Ethiopian musicians – masinqo player Eritbu “Solomon” Agegnehu and singer Entenesh Wassié, we are treated with some wonderful Addis ambiance, plus some beautiful girls dancing to the traditional Azmari song, which Bo laced up/reinforced with some dancehall-like riddim! Stream to the entire Ransom EP on Bandcamp – with remixes from Filastine, Timeblind, Teleseen, Pacheko, and Fletcher.

It also goes without saying that Bo is repping Dutty Artz extra hard in this one! We’ve some some incredible gear coming your way soon too.
