I can’t believe I missed this phenomenal banger from Quik and Kurupt… I guess singles culture kept me from listening to all of BlaQKout… BUT DAMN!!

I used to live in the old space they had- and they KNOW how to throw a party. NES.Avi will be on live video duties – even if we wern’t gonna be there this party would be fucking insane. From Flux facebook event-

Alright, we’re giving away a pair of tickets to One Step Beyond. We’re going to keep this simple and straightforward; the first person to email family [at] duttyartz.com with the correct answer to the following question wins a pair of ticket to the show; What was the first joint-release from DJ Rupture and Matt Shadetek/Team Shadetek?
You must also include “One Step Beyond Ticket Giveway” in the subject line.
Here’s a new remix from Uproot Andy and Geko Jones. I’ve heard “Manuelita” a few times already, usually during the early hours of the night, warming and shaking up party people. Here’s what Geko said about “Manuelita” to The FADER’s Ghetto Palms…track is a remix we’ve just made of a traditional style Colombian bullerengue song. Doing these kinds of remixes blending folkloric music with club music is one of the sounds that has come define our party and this kind of remix has itself really become traditional for us over the last year or so.
Gex and Andy are currently on tour, coming thru your city or a city near you. Que Bajo?! sound system pushing forward with Boima tomorrow in San Fran!
I’ve got 4 interesting gigs this week. All-out parties on Wednesday and Saturday, a free artist’s talk / Q&A /demystifying-what-i-do-mini-set on Friday, and my duo for guitar & turntables with Andy Moor on Thursday. I’m psyched to meet Chattanooga!
Thurs. Sept 10: Chicago IL. Duo with Andy Moor at The Wire’s Adventures in Modern Music festival, Empty Bottle. Lucky Dragons will also be performing!
Fri. Sept 11 + Sat. Sept 12: Chattanooga TN. On Friday, a free artist talk/Q&A/turntablism demo early. Club gig on Saturday. The talk with be live streaming and maybe twittering here. Friday talk facebook page, Saturday party facebookery.
The album drops September 15th, and on the 17th Que Bajo?! is throwing a party with special live performance by Jahdan, accompanied by super producer extraordinaire and deejay Matt Shadetek. Jahdan & Matt are also getting ready for some touring and special performances later this Fall and into the Winter. Dates and details will be here soon. For now, come enjoy the party! On the same night, we are also blessed with the appearance of the great Eddie Stats of The FADER and GHETTO PALMS series. Eddie Stats is sharp, efficient, and just ridiculously good behind the decks. DJ Rekha of Basement Bhangra will also be live with tunes for the all around dance floor massacre. Dutty Artz family/Que Bajo?! resident deejays/two of the wickedest sound men I know Geko Jones and Uproot Andy will be in the building serving their usual, tremendous heat, along with some blazing refixes. facebook RSVP here.
Having only been away from the states for nine months I’m amazed at the diversity of produce available at the grocery store. I’m equally excited about the excellent shows laced up and down the best coast these next few weeks.
First up is Tim Turbo from Seen (aka the non-hippie reggae and dance hall site) and Danny Scrilla doing dates down California and then over into Texas… “equipped with black duffle bags, brimful with Ghetto Lazerbass.”

As you all probably may know I teach at DubSpot in NYC teaching people to make beats with Logic. For Dubspot’s second anniversary Dan who runs it is doing some parties. This one should be great, Rupture and I will be there DJing. Of special interest, at least to me, is the early sound-check session where dub master Scientist will be giving a talk about mic placement and general production/mixing wizardry before the show. The daytime seminars, including one with Rupture, should be very cool too.

Dutty Artz extended family 77Klash looking dapper in his white suit at the last New York Tropical performing some of his new joints, myself offscreen on the ones and twos. BK let’s get ittttttt.
ok. so the free tickets have long been ’sold out’ — early bird gets the worm– but this is a quick reminder: Tomorrow I’m DJing at the SONAR festival’s first ever NYC, party! Myself, Prefuse 73, and bunch of producers / DJs / VJs from Barcelona (where both Prefuse & I lived). In fact, I’ve spent most of the 21st century based in Barcelona….
I go on around 11pm and spin for 2 hours, a nice stretch-out set. Will sneek in tunes from my fav BCN-based producers — Cauto (3rd generation Catalan musician!), Cardopusher (Venezuelan expat skullcrusher), Pulshar (Spanish but sing in accented English: bonus points!), Filastine (gringo total!), as well as making sure the Euro-latinos get a taste of New York Tropical — cumbia from new jersey, mambo / 160bpm merengue de la kalle edits, etc., stuff that you don’t hear over in España.
Here’s one of the Cauto jams we released on vinyl:
No kidding! Thanks to all who came out to New York Tropical 5 to see Uproot Andy, Geko, me and Maluca. It was a lot of fun. Maluca killed it, super energy and the people loved it. Here are some pics from the night. This month we’ll be back at Glasslands on Friday May 29th doin’ it again, flier and info very soon.
Friday, May 1st @ Public Assembly in Brooklyn. Agriculture Records is having a showcase party as part of the long-running Bunker night! Should be lively. I’ll be playing/debuting a bunch of exclusive stuff including a heap of remixes and beats Matt Shadetek & I have been cooking up.
