Last year we dropped Chief Boima’s epic bay-centric refix ep “African By the Bay.” If you never got it- DL it for FREE here. On that release he took some of his favorite African riddims and laced already fire jams with them- my favorite was his 40-water sampling delight “Shake Them Dreads”- and while I was bummed we didn’t get a Boima once over on D-Lo or Sleepy D- I still can’t help but pull from this release nearly everytime I play out. Since then- Boima has been producing killer tracks for Los Rakas, running rampant with his group Banana Clipz, all while moving to New York, starting the legendary Made In Africa party with Lamin Fofana AND hitting the books. “African In New York” brings more next level production from B- sorting details now, but looks like we’ll be lacing y’all with vinyl and digital on this one. If you don’t already know- he just kicked off a new mix series for Okay Africa. It’s a great intro for the breadth of Boima’s DEEEP knowledge from the continent and ability to go transatlantic like it was nothing.

TWO WORDS: PERCOLATOR DECALE
]]>A hands-down classic; this is one of the greatest Coupe Decale songs ever.
& here’s the opening track from the first volume of a massive Coupe compilation Abijan En Feu (Nouvelles Dances | Nouvelles Ambiances). This has all the attributes a nice jump-start groove should have – first, a comical, deranged sounding character shouting gibberish (or rather speaking in a language we don’t clearly understand,) a few seconds in, a more commanding and heavy voice takes charge, and serious outbursts of singing and speed-rapping backed by incredible music from DJ Arafat (myspace) follows. This one is guaranteed to scale up parties and move bodies.

Birdman – Money To Blow feat. Drake and Lil Wayne (Chief Boima Remix)
Chief Boima‘s version is not as funny, but it’s a guaranteed dance floor scorcher. The Chief is a badman producer from the left coast who recently unleashed a free EP heat up your winter – African By The Bay (62 megabyte ZIP file), feel free to to download and re-post on your site.

Dutty Artz is proud to present The African By The Bay EP, an exclusive collection of irresistible remixes from San Francisco/Bay Area producer Chief Boima. The EP is available for free download, and features a healthy dose of Afro dance remixes and instrumental reworkings of songs by Birdman (“Money To Blow” feat. Drake and Lil Wayne), Akon (“Right Now”), The Jacka (“Glamorous Lifestyle” feat. Andre Nickatina), Fabo & T-Pain (“Own Step”)
African By The Bay EP is a potent batch of new stateside rap tunes given the remix treatment by Boima, our favorite African-American (in the Obama sense) producer, whose trail-blazing approach weds percussive patterns from sounds like Ivorian Coupe Decale and Senegalese Mbalax. (Not to mention Angolan Kuduro, Nigerian Club, and South African Kwaito, and his Sierra Leonean Highlife and Palm-Wine refix of Cold Flamez “Miss Me, Kiss Me”.)

There are Forces At Work ensuring that Boima comes to our overpriced, deliriously compressed city with its decaying public transit to share his Akon mbalax/decale remixes and generally hype afro-hypen-positivity with us.

Just got this from Spoek. The last one was so baddd I haven’t even heard this but I figure I better fling it up here quick so you all can listen and enjoy simultaneously. Mr. Mathambo was on a deep-south-african funky township haunted house vibe last time. OK I listened. This one sounds like your mama getting daggered by a skeleton in a fly outfit, under very slow strobe lights. Ugh, it’s disgusting. I think I’m sick.
Spoek sez:
“ON THIS EXTRA SPECIAL MIX DEDICATED TO MY FRIEND, I HAVE PUT IN A LOT OF THE SUPER CRUCIAL SUPER IMPORTANT NEW MUSIC I HAVE BEEN MAKING AS MOLEKE MBEMBE AND SLUSH PUPPY KIDS. I WANT YOU TO ENJOY YOURSELF.

Sierra Leoneans are party people (okay, maybe not as much as Jamaicans, but nevertheless Salone people party hard too) so after all the formalities with the imam, the old men and women, the soundsystem was turned on, & the disc in the system Best Of Africa, Vol. 1 – a fantastic party compilation, containing a series of mini-mixes plus a few original songs by one Sierra Leonean artist, whose name is shouted, reverberated, and unclear. The CD booklet and case are nowhere to be found, but from what I can make out (and I might be completely wrong here), the DJ is Ousmane Sayyid and the singer is Succulent The Bug. Here’s the opening mix, with the first/title track performed by Succulent.
“And in fact, my love for you is like a water with many fishes…”
The comp is buyable here.

Chief Boima’s mix starts with our entertaining host, DJ Elembe kicking good vibes over a mellow, unspecified Congolese groove which quickly builds up and gave way to the Magic System hit “Premier Gaou”. By the time we get to Boima’s Coup Decale remixes of Kid Cudi “Day ‘N’ Nite” or D4L “Like Me Baby”, it’s a wrap! Boima continue with his versions and refixes, and Sogui So Good picks up right where Boima left and proceeding to drop straight dance floor pleasing jams that will make the staunchest African two-stepper actually shake his bones, rather than just sway from side to side. Alright, enough talk, check out some cuts from Boima’s set below & peep this Ghetto Bassquake conversation.
