This post is cross-posted from the brand spanking new blog at mattshadetek.com. In addition to my usual stuff here at Dutty Artz I wanted a place to call my own and talk about some of my less dutty, more clean artz that I am up to. Expect a lot more wordz.

I assume if you’re reading this blog that you’re someone familiar with my musical output. If not, please get familiar here at my soundcloud page.
Generally speaking I am pretty cagey about my new projects until they’re nearly done. I want to try an experiment this time in going through the process of making an album completely in public. Transparency! Throwing stones in a glass house!

New mix (Park Here) from our good friend Waer Rock/Culture System focusing on New York area producers making garage-y beats. This one is thick with unreleased jams from folks like Incyde, Peter Gunn, Mikey Dubs, and more – plus a track from our very own Matt Shadetek, “Beenie Eyes” from the album Flowers.
PS – I’m still here. Money calls, but indeed family is always first!
This Friday I’ll be playing at my current favorite party in NYC, Turrbotax. I really like what Contakt and the Turrbotax crew have put together there. They’re playing a really cool blend of new dance music and it’s always a fun hype atmosphere. Free beer by Asahi from 11-12 doesn’t hurt either. I’m especially pleased about this Friday’s Turrbotax Business Edition since I’ll be playing with Mosca of Night Slugs. Mosca produced the 10 minute post-funky epic ‘Nike’ which really got my ears open last year. I expect this to be one to remember so please do come out and sweat with us.

Dutty Artz own mr_blakkamoore is ramping up for the release of his new album Babylon Nightmare coming soon on Lustre Kingsand brings us this excellent podcast mixtape for a teaser: Global Warning (click here to download). Me and Liondub, who I produced ‘The General’ with contributed a remix of Jahdan’s ‘Songs of Love’ the first single for the new album. There’s a bunch of great stuff on here including some exclusives from Digital Ancient aka Andrew Moon Bain and a feature from Baja of Dry Eye Crew and Delie from Noble Society. Check out the post over at Largeup.com for a little bio of Jahdan and enjoy the mix.
New hotness from New York homies Cubic Zirconia feat. our boy in South Afrika Mr. Ghost Bones himself Spoek Mathambo. I’ve known lead singer Tiombe Lockhart for a while now ever since me and Zack released a track of hers on Shadetek Records (back when that was still a going concern) and always loved her singing.
Now she’s teamed up with Nick Hook and the rest of the Cubic Zirconia fam to form this band project and they are killing it a lot. I got to play with them and hang with them at SXSW this year and they put on a killer show. Sort of house music with a band (for lack of a better term) really fun live and Tiombe is a super charismatic front-woman.
The video is on some ill Orson Welles one-shot auteur film making shit directed by Khalil Joseph and looks like a million bucks although knowing that Cubic are on a similar DIY go-for-self vibe as we are and releasing on their label I’m guessing it didn’t cost that. Download this minimix from their new Black and Blue EP and vote with your dollars to support good independent music on Tuesday June 15th when it drops.
Their release party is this Tuesday June 15th at Damon Dash Gallery (?!) with an art opening to boot. Flier:
This, their previous video ‘Josephine’ is crazy too.
My new solo instrumental album Flowers is out! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
It took me a while to get this out, longer than I’d like considering it’s on my own label but now it’s out and it feels GOOD! I love completing projects. But it’s not done! Now I have to actually sell some copies! If you or your grandma or your friends on the internet would like to support the Dutty Artz movement and contribute to the cause of me buying diapers, catfood and continuing my lavish lifestyle for me and my young family that would be great! There are many places to buy it. Here is a list:
BUY MATT SHADETEK – FLOWERS:
Boomkat:
This is probably a good option if you want FLAC or any of those non-mp3 formats.
If you buy here please write me a lavish review and give me five stars! I deserve it! If you’re browsing the store from your phone or whatever I am featured in front of the Electronic category in the USA store.
Friend of Dutty Artz Moon from Lustre Kings invited us to participate in this party to celebrate the screening of ‘Wah Do Dem’ a new film set in Jamaica that’s been generating a nice buzz. Fucking big chune. Dutty Artz familia Uproot Andy kills it again on the remix foot. If you don’t know the original already you will hear it out of a car near you soon. Super 2x double marinated remix wherein Los Rakas re-vocaled Hold Yuh Riddim by Brooklyn’s Ricky Blaze (vocaled by Gyptian under the same name) then Uproot Andy took the remix acapella and re-did the beat in his inimitable NY Tropical style. New Yorkers if you are anywhere around us this summer you are gonna hear this again and again. And again. Also check the vocals over the original riddim here.

“…What is the temporary were forever? The goal is to design a public space with these precepts.”
I’ll be on the jury of Temporary Publics Sketch 120 charrette competition in Brooklyn tomorrow, hosted by SUPERFRONT and The Architecture League of NY’s Design in 5. Should be fascinating – several community organizations from Bed-Stuy have submitted indoor/outdoor summertime public project proposals, and tomorrow around 30 designers and architects will be submitting designs in which to realize them — the winning sketch will be built in Superfront’s massive backyard and active throughout the summer!
Innovative public spaces are so hard to create and maintain – especially in dense, expensive cities like Nueva York – so it’s great to help coax one into being. I’ve been reviewing the communty groups’ proposals and it’s already exciting. You are welcome to come join us as the various design teams develop rapid-fire proposals…
Design in 5 Charrette
A program within SUPERFRONT’s spring series, “Cypher on Urban Affairs”
Jury: DJ/rupture, nARCHITECTS, and Slade Architecture
Saturday, May 15
2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. SUPERFRONT
1432 Atlantic Avenue
Brooklyn
“Participants will be randomly assigned a detailed program brief, submitted by community organizations through a SUPERFRONT open-call, with parameters for a semi-outdoor space to be managed for public activity in Brooklyn. The selected team will have the opportunity to construct their design in a 1,000 square foot outdoor space behind the SUPERFRONT gallery in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, in collaboration with SUPERFRONT. Construction will be supported through donated materials from Materials For The Arts, other partners, and novice construction volunteers. Winners will be given a budget of $500 for additional supplies. The temporary outdoor installation will open on June 26th and will run until August 15th.”
Sunday May 9th come see myself Matt Shadetek, Jahdan Blakkamoore and Uproot Andy at Glasslands for the Drink Well Do Good tour. The goal of the event is to raise awareness about viticulture (wine making) in Africa. It will also be a great Sunday night party with the Dutty Artz fam back at Glasslands for the first time since our New York Tropical parties. For everyone who has been asking me about those, don’t worry, we’re working on a few things for summer.
The organizers ISAW say: “All proceeds from the tour will go towards to development of a viticultural training center on the M’hudi Estate in Stellenbosch. This campaign also raises awareness for our partners M’hudi and Seven Sisters, South Africa’s only two black-owned estates. ISAW is using the tour to introduce these wines to consumers, and support South Africa’s wine industry which employs nearly 300,000 workers. Please support our campaign through purchasing tickets, going to your local retailer, and becoming ambassadors for our cause.”
Normally I get a lot of stupid shit in the form of press releases but today I actually got one with something cool in it. Publicists, just because I’m blogging about something I got in a release doesn’t mean you should send more! I hate them! What does this say about how we should all be promoting our music? I don’t know.
Anyway, Pursuit Grooves is a female producer/singer/rapper from BK who I’ve never heard of but has a new record out on dubstep label Tectonic although it’s not dubstep. I like what I’ve heard. Also, dubstep labels take note: you need more female energy. You are all turning (have turned) your genre into a big macho dick grabbing testosterone fest and it’s turning me off. As rising dancehall artist Professor says in one of my recent favorite songs:
“Nuff Bwaaaaaay / a gwan like dem nuh wan roll wit de gyal dem… Some bwaaaaay would rather roll out wit one bagga man fren… my yout it no look good.” – Professor, Roll With The Gal Dem
This Friday I will be swimming the Oceans of Blood with former Change Agent homies Orien McNeill and Zack Shadetek on a fundraiser for their crazy boat project. Open bar and a fake blood slip and slide and me djing from 11-1AM What more do you want, really?
Dutty Artz extended family tree and recent Trouble and Bass artist 77Klash has a new leak for us via RCRDLBL with the stream and free download below. Check it out, Klash is heading off in an interesting, deadpan-dance direction. Produced by Sando Khan from Fort Green. BK Bashment let’s get it!
Come check out me and @mr_blakkamoore at this last minute joint tomorrow night in Williamsburg at Zebulon. The flier is extra crazy (gives me myspace nostalgia in the best possible way) and so I’m guessing the party should be good. It’s us and Yacouba Sissoko who is a master kora player from Mali.
sign up for the Dutty Artz email list!! you'll receive a confirmation message, so check yr spamcatchers if you dont get one soon.
