Riobamba is an Ecuadorian-Lithuanian DJ/producer, cultural promoter, and writer based in Brooklyn.
Drawing inspiration from her hybrid diaspora roots, borderless digital dialogue, and bodega soundtracks, Riobamba reconstructs stories of migration and displacement to build out her own club rituals. Her sets interweave remixed Youtube clips and field recordings, urbano futures, acid dembow, sound system anthems, and screwed rave disorder in a tribute to de-colonized club culture.
Riobamba is the co-creator and resident of monthly transnational bass night Picó Picante, now four years running and named Best Dance Night by the readers of Dig Boston. She recently signed on as resident DJ of Perreo, Remezcla’s official club night showcasing island industrial, hip-hop en español, and reggaetón soundscapes.
Prior to New York, Riobamba spent a year in Bogotá via the Fulbright-mtvU program, where she immersed herself in research on digital music production and distribution as subversive tools for self-representation. She researched the power of translating these digital networks into resources for communities marginalized due to Colombia’s ongoing civil conflict, which led to collaborations with artists producing cumbia gótica, political hip-hop, electro-champeta futurism, and more.
Upon arriving in New York, Riobamba joined the Dutty Artz artist collective founded by dj/rupture and Matt Shadetek, and she worked worked until early 2015 as the Music Editor of alt-Latinx arts and culture platform Remezcla.
As a producer, Riobamba’s work has premiered on Noisey Mexico, Apple Music, and Sounds and Colours. She has toured in across the US, Colombia, and Mexico, sharing the stage with The Knife, Nina Sky, Rizzla, Chancha Via Circuito, Bomba Estéreo, Princess Nokia, DJ Tameil, Jubilee, and many more.
