BENGA ON HOW TO MAKE DUBSTEP

by Matt Shadetek

Much respect to Benga for being open about how he makes his dubstep tunes. Some people are insecure about sharing their studio knowledge, but those that know know that its really not about process, technique or ’secrets’ but as 77Klash says “Music is a combination of vibes and energy.” If you’re a producer quite a lot of this is stuff that you know, but I enjoyed it nonetheless, and if you’re young or aspiring you might get some real useful stuff from this. Big up to Future Music for filming this and putting it on Youtube. If you don’t know who Benga is he’s responsible for this past years HUGE dubstep anthem “Night” with Coki, also check for his album Diary of an Afro Warrior.

Nah, man, not feeling this at all.

Following the “can I put the snare not on the 3 and still call it dubstep” discussion at Dubstep Forum, THAT’S interesting.

ahh cheers. that was worth a watch. yeah, alot of it is quite basic, but it shows how detailed benga is with is music. it’s just the little things that he does that give him his reputation. him and skream are certainly bringing alot of new stuff to the table with their fine attention to detail in which some of the other producers arent as carefull with.

  7. Murru Says:

What software does he use in this interview? Is this the best software around?

  8. Plural Vibes Says:

    @ Murru:
He’s using FruityLoops for making the drumloops and Logic as DAW for mixing and arranging. The synth he uses is the RobPapen Albino.

There are so many developers of musicproduction tools, you can’t say wich ones are the best! There are thousand ways to create music with a computer. You may have to try a lot of tools to find those that fit to your needs.
